Information and updates for parents.

Welcome to Year 5 at Isabella State School.  We have an awesome year planned for Year 5 and are really looking forward to sharing it with our students.

Curriculum

  • In English, our focus will be on narratives and writing and creating the first chapter of a fantasy story. Students will participate in reading group activities, Spelling Mastery lessons a􀀥 well as grammar, punctuation, editing and writing classes.
  • In Mathematics, students will be participating in C2C and Prime Mathematics programs. Students will focus on all mathematical areas including Number and Chance and Data, Algebra, Measurement and Geometry.
  • In Science, students will investigate the Solar System.
  • In HASS, students will be examining the human and environmental influence on a location, and how locations can have both human and environmental characteristics.
  • Your child will be participating in one hour lesson of LOTE (Languages Other Than English) each week. The language studied is Japanese. LOTE is on Thursday.
  • Students participate in Music and PE Lessons on either Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday (ask your child which day their class attends.) Please ensure they have their hat and water bottle for every lesson to be invited to the end of term PE celebration. Students require this equipment every day and especially on PE days.

Absences – Every day counts. Please make sure the school is notified of any absences. This can be done by replying to the automated text message, sending a note or calling the absence line on 4040 8760.

School uniform - Full Isabella State School uniform is required every day. This also includes closed in shoes (no thongs) and a broad brim hat. On cooler days students are encouraged to wear navy jumpers/track tops that do not have a hood. Wearing our school colours and the correct uniform is an important part of taking pride in our school and attending every day with a good attitude.

School times - School gates will not be unlocked until 8:15am. Students are asked not to arrive at school before 8:15am. The school is not able to guarantee adequate supervision of children who arrive before this time. When the gates are unlocked, students are expected to sit in the junior (P-3) covered area and central (4-6) covered areas until the bell rings at 8.45am. At this time they may move to classroom areas.

Homework - is sent home weekly by your child's class teacher. This includes a maths and English worksheet that reviews work previously completed, spelling and reading. All students should also be learning their times tables. Please support your child to work independently and return their work to school each week. This is a step in demonstrating their responsibility and is something important for teachers to consider as we start to look at students interested in taking on leadership positions next year.

If you have queries or questions throughout the term, feel free to make contact with our child’s teacher before or after school.  Teachers are also contactable via email with addresses provided below.

We really look forward to working together with you over the rest of the year to make sure your child can achieve their full potential.  We are looking forward to a great term.
